Therapy

I provide therapy to adults. I have experience working with men, women and gender diverse people from many different backgrounds. I have worked with most psychological difficulties (e.g., mood disorders, anxiety-related disorders, personality disorders, grief and loss) and other issues such as relationship problems, anger problems, and addiction. In particular, I often work with people presenting with:

Diverse sexuality and gender
Focusing on minority stress (i.e., impact of stigma), disclosure, identity formation, intimate relationships, and social and medical affirmation

Depression
Particularly persistent depressive disorder

Anxiety disorders
Social anxiety, generalised anxiety, phobias

Trauma (PTSD)
Single episode, historical, complex trauma

Self-worth and identity issues

HIV-related stigma

Relational/interpersonal difficulties

I work within a client-centred approach and build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. It is a privilege to hear clients' experiences and be part of their growth. I help clients better understand themselves through greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. By achieving understanding and awareness, clients are able to make better conscious decisions about themselves and their life, which leads to meaningful change.  I use a range of evidence-based treatment modalities and implement those which are best suited for the client and what they want to work on in therapy.

What is therapy?

Therapy involves talking about your experiences, thoughts, and feelings, largely within the context of a current problem/issue. Through the use of various techniques, you may learn to understand the ways you think and why you may behave in particular ways. You may learn to alter your thinking and behaviours, as well as how you relate to yourself and others.

People see psychologists for a number of reasons such as being uncertain about what action to take in their life, relationship problems, or because they are suffering from a mental health problem. If you want to talk more about whether therapy is right for you please don't hesitate to make contact.

Assisting gender diverse people to access medical treatment - (hormones/surgery)

I conduct WPATH Standards of Care Assessments which focuses on readiness and preparedness to commence medical gender-affirming treatment (i.e., hormones/surgery).

If you would like to know more about this process, then please do not hesitate to contact me. I am more than happy to provide any assistance where I can.

I do not provide assessments to gender diverse children (younger than 17-years-old). I am happy to discuss the options available to gender diverse children in Western Australia.

Trainings/Workshops

I have experience in providing workshops and training to a range of clinical and non-clinical audiences (e.g., university students, health professionals, NGOs, non-clinical government agencies) on providing LGBTI+ affirmative care and therapy. Don't hesitate to be in touch if you'd like to discuss training opportunities.
